This song was written and demo'd in 1993 as "It's only because I love you". This seemed a cumbersome title so Phill renamed it "Spiral" Enellen played it live from 1994 onwards and it was the first song I took a lead vocal on as prior to this Phill sang all the lead vocals. We recorded a satisfactory version in May/June 1995, with Paul Hammerton on drums, which appeared on Enellen's "Millennia" album and later on the Richard Snow & The Inlaws compilation "20 greatest bits and bobs"
However after Justin joined us, he brought a Police like , Stewart Copeland vibe to it and suggested tightening up the arrangement a bit. So we were keen to re-record Justin's re jig. This version was recorded in March 1997. The whole thing was recorded on cassette 4 track (Yamaha MT100) in my bedroom except for the drums.
